What is a Thread Lift?

A thread lift is a minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure involving the use of temporary sutures to create a subtle, visible lift to the skin. The thread lift, also called a barbed suture lift, is an excellent alternative to surgical procedures to lift the skin and improve firmness of the face, neck, or breasts.

How does a Thread Lift Work?

Thread lift procedures suspend the skin by stitching up portions of the skin to create the appearance of firmer, tighter skin. The procedure threads a medical-grade, dissolvable thread under the skin of the area being treated. The thread grabs onto the skin to tighten the area being treated. The threads are “pulled” and secured to tighten the skin. The thread lift procedure is an excellent alternative to cosmetic surgeries that remove a patient’s loose skin.

The barbed thread used in the procedure also helps to stimulate the skin’s natural production of collagen. Who is a Candidate for Thread Lifts?

Dermal fillers and other skin therapies and treatments can further enhance the results of thread lifts to areas such as the face, neck, torso, and breasts. Compared to surgical procedures such as facelifts, a thread lift involves far fewer complications and risks - not to mention time and costs!

What Should I Expect with a Thread Lift?

At Skincredible Dermatology, we perform the minimally-invasive thread lift treatments in-office. We will do our best to ensure you feel safe and comfortable before, during, and after your treatment or procedure. Depending on the area being treated, the thread lift procedure may be slightly different but will typically take under 45 minutes.

There can be some mild pain involved with the minimally-invasive thread lift procedure. Thread lifts do not require general anesthesia as they are not surgical procedures. During the procedure, the patient reclines as the skin is disinfected. We then thread a thin needle (cannula) underneath the skin which takes less than a minute. During the threading, patients can feel light pressure under the skin.

How long do the results of a Thread Lift Last?

The results from a thread lift treatment can last between one and three years. The length of the results from a thread lift depends on the area being treated and a patient’s skin.

Are there any Side Effects of Thread Lift treatments?

Thread lifts are a low-risk procedure and are considered safe for any patients experiencing frustration with loose and sagging skin around the face and neck. Thread lift procedures require minimal recovery time. 

Some common side effects of thread lift treatments include redness around the treatment site, bruising, bleeding, and swelling. Other less common side effects of thread lift treatments include allergic reactions, bleeding near the treatment site, migration or movement of the thread, pain from the thread, or infection at the treatment site.
